Cash App is a peer to peer money sharing app that offers the use of debit cards, credit cards, bank transfers, as well as investing in stocks. Their application is used to transfer funds between friends, colleagues and some business transactions. With all these features, the one function that was missing was the ability to split purchases. The objective of this project was to add said split feature enabling individual users to request splitting purchases amongst users including but not limited to checks, gifts, or recurring payments like rent.

Scope
Cash App caters to individuals and businesses, but this particular feature was created with an individual, specifically Iphone, user in mind. Users have the ability to reimburse others, but not to split the cost of that initial purchase.
Assumptions
-
Usually the user would have to utilize a calculator to make itemized calculations
-
Ideally, we want this process to be done within the app, keeping people on longer
-
What if a member of the group or party does not have Cash app? How will they be included in this transaction?
-
Light mode and dark mode, and responsiveness differ between devices
-
Accessibility with contrast, bright green and white text. What is the color palette?
Problem Statement
How might we help a Cash App user to request money from their friends or colleagues after making a large purchase on behalf of the group, calculating the exact amount each person owes based on the previously paid service or product?
Ideation Plan
-
Copy current app pages
-
Retrieve assets (text, colors, icons)
-
Use task flow to build out tasks into simple flow
-
New icons
-
Create continuity
Questions for testing
-
Are the new icons clear in their meaning without explanation
-
If a user does not have Cash App what is the incentive to download the app
-
If non-user, how will they receive a payment request
Key Takeaways
-
In order for this feature to be viable there needs to be communication with the development team on possible options
-
User acquisition is possible by offering users the ability to invite a friend but method is not clear
-
Icons need to be simplified
-
Contrast should be stronger
